SUMMARY:Minnesota Yearly State Mandated Training Course
DESCRIPTION:This 2-day course provides officers with their  State of Minnesota yearly mandated trainings. Officers will examine Crisis Response\, Conflict Management\, Autism\, and Cultural Diversity. \nLaw Enforcement is constantly learning new skills to keep up with the demands of the ever-increasing social issues\, which are matched only by the level of complexity in every situation. This seminar goes beyond the physical tactics required by law enforcement and equips officers with training to promote the safety of all involved for positive crisis response. \nPOST Approved \n\nLaw Enforcement Guide to Understanding Autism: 4 hours\nCrisis intervention Mental Illness Crisis: 6 hours\nCultural Diversity – M2M A Cultural Journey; Implicit Bias / Community engagement: 3 hours\nDe-Escalation and Conflict Management: 2 hour\nHate Crimes – Crimes Motivated by Bias: 1 hour\n\nTOTAL: 16 hours \nCourse Descriptions:\nLaw Enforcement Guide to Understanding Autism\nDevelop a deeper understanding into autism spectrum disorder (ASD)\, gain recognition in identifying behaviors associated with ASD\, how disparities can be barriers inform law enforcement response\, and gain strategies and practices to promote safe\, effective\, and positive outcomes when in situations involving ASD. \nCrisis Intervention Mental Illness Crisis\nIn this 6-hour course\, learn field-level triage for primary mental health disorders\, symptom cluster\, potential complications within the law enforcement intersections\, and methods for engaging individuals struggling with their crisis. \nM2M American Stories of Cultural Change \nThis course examines the history of race relations and policing in the United States through historical stories of resiliency against oppression that reveal the roots of persistent inequalities and foster a deeper understanding of the issues facing our communities today. Participants will journey from America’s birth to the present day\, while discovering how institutional racism and the laws\, policies and practices in our country have historically disadvantaged people of color creating fear and mistrust. M2M explores individual behaviors\, defines explicit and implicit bias\, and provides practical strategies for how to identify and interrupt implicit bias in their lives and in their daily work. Through this historical and exploration\, participants in M2M are challenged to make a commitment to create positive change through engagement and impartial police practices that collectively will help create safer communities for all people. \nDe-Escalation and Conflict Management Strategies \nThis course is designed to give officer a baseline understanding of how to engage in dialogue with different cultural groups. This course also includes De-escalation Techniques based upon different cultural group. This includes cultural triggers\, De-escalation techniques. This is a hands-on/lecture style course includes\, videos\, lecture\, and Role playing. \nWithin the DMC model are the 4 C’s: Contact\, Context\, Content\, and Contrast. Officers will be introduced to basics of equitable communication through learning about how to make contact\, the internal factors\, the issues taking place currently\, and difference in cultural norms. \nHate Crime\nHate Crime is often misunderstood and as a result\, unfortunately\, goes unreported by victims\, witnesses and even our Law Enforcement officials.
